Energy and Environment Partnership in the Mekong Region

The Energy and Environment Partnership (EEP) fosters enhanced use of renewable energy solutions and energy efficiency. Projects will be selected through calls for proposals. The programme objectives are improved access to modern energy and energy services in the Mekong region, as well as reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. These objectives are to be reached through thematic seminars and the selected projects, which should aim at:

  • increased access to renewable energy services and renewable energy technologies in rural areas;
  • increased development of and investment in renewable energy technologies;
  • improvement of energy efficiency;
  • improved knowledge base and tools to support renewable energy project development and policy and legislative framework development;
  • improved access to information and funding for development of renewable energy and renewable energy technologies.

NDF’s grant financing, totalling EUR 3 million, will be channelled to projects in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. NDF finances the programme in cooperation with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The total programme financing, also including financing for projects in Thailand, amounts to EUR 7.9 million. The Asian Institute of Technology will, supported by an international technical assistance team, implement the programme. The EEP will make calls for proposals on a regular basis. The first call for proposals is open 15.10. - 31.12.2009.
