Objectives
The assistance will focus on capacity development and pilot projects. The objectives are to build institutional capacity for coordinating, budgeting and planning climate change actions and to apply a learning-by-doing approach in a number of selected pilots in high priority sectors such as water resources and agriculture. The primary contribution of the project will be to improve institutional and technical capacity to adapt to climate change.

The project is expected to produce three major outputs: (i) piloting options for climate adaptation and resilience in selected climate-sensitive sectors; (ii) development of a plan for sector-wide upscaling and replication in other key sectors, by building on the successes and lessons learned from the pilot program; and (iii) awareness and capacity building for key stakeholders for formulation and implementation of policies and programs in building the socioeconomic and ecological resilience.

Financing
The project is financed in cooperation with the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Lao PDR. Total project funding amounts to USD 3.5 million.
