Beneficiaries of the new microloan scheme can choose from a range of solar system fittings available locally in Ethiopia.

NDF gladly acknowledges that a project by the Nordic Climate Facility (NCF) receives a prominent climate award.

The 2016 Best Climate Practices Award given by the International Center for Climate Governance was this year awarded to the project Clean Energy Promotion through Microfinance in Ethiopia. The annual theme of the award was “expanding access to climate financing”.

The ongoing project establishes an innovative and replicable microcredit concept to source, finance, and deliver Clean Energy Technologies to low-income households and micro, small, and medium enterprises in Ethiopia. The project is led by Gaia and implemented together with MicroEnergy International, Swan Management and three Ethiopian microfinance institutions.

The project was financed in the Nordic Climate Facility’s (NCF) fourth call for proposals.  NCF is financed and now administered by NDF. The first four calls for proposals were jointly administered by NDF and NEFCO.
