The objective is to determine the renewable energy potential in the Honduras Bay Islands and evaluate the feasibility of using wind and solar energy sources. The assessment will be used to prepare a strategy in order to reduce progressively the use of fossil fuel in the islands.

The main objectives of the NDF project are to integrate climate change adaptation actions into the comprehensive neighbourhood upgrading plans in greater Tegucigalpa; as well as to strengthen capacity and the knowledge base of the Honduran institutions about adaptation to climate change.

The overall objective is to increase the capacity of indigenous peoples and afro-descendants groups to tackle climate change, secure civil society monitoring of climate change obligations, and provide renewable energy solutions to local communities.

The project will address mangrove degradation and loss through enhancing the competitiveness of artisanal fishing companies and organizations so as to ensure their sustainable and environmentally responsible inclusion in the economy while preserving the mangrove ecosystem on which their economy depends and increasing their resilience to climate change.
